About:

The Builders’ Club of Grand Avenue Middle School in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District , which includes student athletes, collected and organized book donations for their drive to benefit the local organization, The Book Fairies. “We collected new or gently used books suitable for babies through adults” said Sean Doherty, Spanish teacher/club adviser. “The students spent time after school to sort and package up the donations.”

Eighth-grader Nick DiMarco joined the Builders Club last year because his grandfather is an active Kiwanis Club member. “I want to be charitable just like he is” he added.

The more than 250 books collected will be distributed to high poverty schools and organizations in the metropolitan area. The club plans to start collecting Pennies for Patients, to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
